• Africa Access was founded in 1989 to help schools, public libraries, and parents improve the quality of their children's collections on Africa. Their online database, Africa Access Review, contains over 1000 annotations and reviews of books for children.
• The United Nations Literacy Decade (2003-2012) aims to extend the use of literacy to those who do not currently have access to it.
