As the coronavirus pandemic continues to challenge and disrupt communities around the globe, the African Library Project is working to continue to get books into the hands of eager readers.
We’re committed to doing good at home by ensuring our book drive organizers have practical and safe ways to collect books and fundraise from the comfort of their homes. We are also collaborating with our partners on the ground to make certain they’re well-equipped to resume library development work when it is safe to do so.
Below is a partial list of the actions we are taking, which we will continue to update:
One-Box Donations
Due to a wonderful response to our ONE BOX project, we have managed to fill all the applications for libraries in our Malawi container! Please continue to save your gently used children’s books as space permits, for use in a future book drive, or ONE BOX project. We will update our website as soon as we have mailing dates for upcoming containers, so please check back often. Thank you for your support!
Educational Updates on the Impact of COVID-19 in Africa
Working closely with our partners on the ground, we plan to bring you a series of online discussions and website content about how the communities and schools we serve are dealing with the coronavirus outbreak. The best way to stay up-to-date is to subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media.
Ways to Support African Library Project
Monthly Giving
Recurring gifts are a great way to support our organization. Your regular giving will provide critical support as we meet new challenges and opportunities during and after the pandemic. To set up monthly contributions, select ‘donate monthly’ before submitting your gift.
Unable to give monthly? You can help us create libraries during the coronavirus pandemic by making a tax-deductible donation of any amount. It costs us:
- $25 to provide training materials for 3 new librarians
- $100 to provide a set of 20 HIV/AIDS children’s books to a rural library
Your donation will be used where it is most needed to support library development.
Sponsor an Entire Library
Become a library sponsor by making a contribution of $250.
Each sponsorship covers the cost of sending a library of 1,000 books from New Orleans to Africa. Sponsors will be recognized on our website and social media platforms and receive a special thank you from the African Library Project team. Start a sponsorship fundraiser with family and friends.
Enhance Your Gift Using Corporate Matching
Double your donation by giving through your employer’s matching gift program. We have received generous matched contributions from companies and organizations such as Google, Apple, Gates Foundation, Humana, and Morgan Stanley.
Contact your employer to learn how you can send a matched gift to the African Library Project. We are a registered charity on the Benevity Goodness Platform, Paypal Giving Fund, and others. For more information, email donations@africanlibraryproject.org.
Spread the Word
One of the easiest ways to support our work is by helping us expand our community of supporters.
Champion our cause on social media and across your online networks by sharing our mission with your family or friends.
On May 5th, join us in our upcoming #GivingTuesdayNow campaign for our COVID-19 response fund. Our ask is simple, just tag 5 friends to share the importance of books and challenge them to donate.
