Our Financials
The African Library Project (ALP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing education by creating and improving libraries in 13 Sub-Saharan African countries.
Each library is made possible through gently used children’s books, professional development for teacher-librarians, and strong partnerships with local organizations. Book drive organizers in the U.S. and Canada collect and ship books, which are consolidated into sea containers each year (20′ or 40′ long), carrying between 30,000 and 64,000 books.
Recipient schools and communities receive 500 to 1,200 books, depending on the size of their learner population, as outlined in their application. Libraries are also supported with supplementary resources such as STEM and HIV/AIDS prevention readers (donated by Pearson Education) and ALP’s Teacher-Librarian Manual.
Our model is unique: each library is carefully matched to the needs and interests of the recipient community, increasing the value, performance, and long-term impact of every library created.
